We saw the enormous bobcat again today, in fact a couple of times. It has no great fear of us. In fact I was left alone near it for about 45 minutes while my son drove the truck to another part of the ranch. I was unarmed and had no nearby shelter. I'm pretty sure that it was sitting in the brushy woods only several yards from where I was standing. That area he considers to be his.

I recommend a firearm next time… just in case Walnut, we need you here.

Sylvia saw it and said it was taller than our border collie 'Rocky', and stockier (he is very stocky). I thought that it was similar in size to Sylvia, who weighs 103. I do think about that thing when I am out there alone, but I like seeing bobcats, coyotes, etc. A few years ago I did see a full grown mountain lion. I'll be bringing my little semi auto .22 pea shooter next time. He won't like that...

I’ve mentioned that my wife and I are in the process of selling our home on LI and moving to our cabin in The Catskills. Lots of changes for us. One challenge is decent internet access. We’re several miles out of town and fiber or cable may never happen in my lifetime. I decided to give Starlink a try and installed it on Friday. So far so good! Download speed has been as high as >400 Mbps. The WiFi is covering my house and I ran Cat6 to my tv and pc. The hardware was actually on sale for certain areas including NY.

But does it have a propagation delay? I assume that’s “Latency”. I just ran a speed test and got >400Mbps and 24 ms latency. These numbers vary with every speed test. For my usage which is mostly email, zoom meetings, and entertainment I think it’s great and my only other option is HughesNet or Viasat and I’ve not heard good things about those geosynchronous satellite systems.

Geo-sync has big latency in NZ we used to go via 3 satellites to speak with Europe you got sick of speaking and waiting terrible conversations.
Musk's satellites are a few hundred Kms up so quick as.
We us it here also at the beach.
The local phone companies are currently back filling their cell network with Musk's network not done yet but texts are up and data and speech will follow. Mountain and ocean safety are greatly improved (soon)
