I have always thought that strict enforcement of our immigration and labor laws would be much more effective than building a wall. Start fining/jailing the employers that hire illegals and the market will dry up.

Start fining/jailing the employers that hire illegals and the market will dry up. Yes, but these employers are well-connected. We will have to fine/jail both the employers and the politicians. Unless we self-destruct, the time is coming when we will need more immigrants for our workforce as industry continues to redeploy to North America, Some say we need them now. There are many good csndidates south of the border. But we seem to be no better at weeding out undesirable immigrants than we our at weeding out undesirable politicians. As Pogo said ... We have met the enemy and he is us.  |

Each day about 300 Americans die from fentanyl (like a plane crash a day). Since 9/11, over one million Americans have died of drug overdoses, while the Mexican cartels make $19 - 29 billion a year selling drugs. Just the cost of doing big business.

Since 9/11, over one million Americans have died of drug overdoses, while the Mexican cartels make $19 - 29 billion a year selling drugs. Just the cost of doing big business. So ... about as much as the defense contractors are making on Ukraine. Time to clean up the Wild West again? Some would argue that the Wild West ended when the local people and their law enforcement agents had hunted down and exterminated the local gangs and individuals that gave it that name. I'm not excluding the big business cattle barons of the time. A Public Declaration of War on the cartels? We have the technology and means. Do we have the political support? "Any person or persons transporting drugs, or attempting to transport drugs, across this border is/are subject to extermination". Publish it widely for all to read. A few well-placed air strikes and military ambushes might discourage those who cannot or will not read. Most of the rest could be taken down one or two at a time. Mexico might holler in public ... but in private they might be rooting for us ... as the cartels are as much (or more) of a threat to them as to us. If they want a "War" on drugs, then make it so. No more Mr Nice Guy on foreign criminals and their US-based compadres that are attacking the US. Then it can be Chicago's turn.
