asia.nikkei.com/Politics/Ukraine-war/Behind-Ukraine-peace-proposal-China-foresees-end-to-war-in-summerThe Chinese Military Academy ran a simulation, and predicts the war will be over by the end of the summer. This is an artillery war. By this summer the artillery disparity will be so great between the Russian and Ukrainian side, some are predicting the conflict will end regardless. This is also the reason Xi Jinping is stepping in to try and mediate a peace deal now. Given the current status quo, many casual observers believe the writing is on the wall. It makes sense to save lives, save about face, and not risk further conflict and escalation.

And all along, people have insisted that they don't have a chance. Don't know how Putin would turn that sow's ear into a silk purse. But perhaps that smooth-talking-son-of-a-gun can do it.

Absolutely. The Ukrainians standing up to the might of the Russian military for as long as they have has surprised all of the so called "military analysts". Many of whom predicted this war to last a few mere weeks. No other way to spin it for Putin other than it being an unmitigated disaster that cost Russia it's biggest oil and gas trading partner in Europe and crippling economic sanctions that will prohibit growth for decades. Even if this ends up being a peace for territory settlement the damage done to Russia will take decades to heal.

Or, it could be false info to mislead Russians. The weakest of all foes is the one that is mis-led into thinking they are winning. Surprise is the greatest advantage in battle. Now I'm not definitively saying this is the case....but, if Ukraine was in a decent position and preparing for an offensive they're not exactly gonna say it. That would be unwise.

In addition to the Bakhmut cauldron, a new cauldron has formed around Avdivka. Avdivka is another strategic heavily fortified city. There has been fighting there since 2014. Avdivka also allows Donetsk to be under Ukrainian artillery fire range. Like Bakhmut, if Avdivka falls, the resistance behind this city is less and may create a domino effect.

www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2023/03/20/7394153/index.ampThere are unconfirmed reports Ukraine is using too much manpower and weapons to be able to conduct a counteroffensive in the south. Let's say they are able to launch a major counter offensive in the South against heavily fortified Russian lines. Let's say somehow it is successful. The best case scenario is gaining several kilometers of territory. Ukraine would then need more aid, and manpower, when both are in increasingly short supply. Then what?

Those maxim guns are nothing to be sniffed at. They've been used since very early on in the conflict. If a weapon like that can be effective and allows you to free more modern stuff elsewhere....why not.
Imagine if the US went into battle with a 100 year old machine gun......er....wait an minute.

Girkin compares Bakmuht with Stalingrad but in reverse.

An unhappy Girkin making a live stream.
Is there a window with his name on it??
Theres some speculation he must have some sort of protection to be able to say these things and survive. Perhaps the public face of a subset of Russian power....a merging rival to putins power.
